The Center for Jewish Education of the University of Haifa was founded in 1990 by Professor Miriam Ben-Peretz.

Miriam Ben-Peretz was born in Germany and made Aliya in 1935. She earned three degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has been a faculty member at the University of Haifa since 1967. Professor Ben-Peretz has published ten books and numerous papers in scientific journals and books. She has been, and still is, a visiting professor in prestigious universities abroad. She chaired several policy committees of the Ministry of education. In 1997 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Curriculum Studies Division of the American Educational Research Association in recognition of outstanding contribution to curriculum studies over an extended period of time. In 2006 she received the Israel Prize for Research in Education. She has been a senior Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Education in the University of Haifa since 1997.

 

 

 

 

 

Professor Hanan Alexander was appointed to succeed Prof. Miriam Ben-Peretz in 2000, after his immigration to Israel from Los-Angeles.
